The Great Northern Canoe RaceSunday, August 20, 2006Blue Sky Paddlers are proud to present a great race on a new date. The 8th annual Great Northern Canoe Race on Trout Lake in North Bay. This exciting and challenging race will begin and end at Olmsted Beach, site of the North Bay Canoe Club. For C1and C2 racing canoes, the course will consist of a 22 km route including 3 portages. Recreational canoes will race a distance of 14 km with 2 portages. Race souvenirs will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each category. There will be plenty of draw prizes available with many chances to win!! Spectators will witness an exciting “Le Mann’s” style start to the race. In this type of start, canoes are placed at the waters edge and racers line up approximately 75 meters back from the canoes. At the sound of the gun, everyone runs to grab hold of their canoe and, as quickly as possible, run into the water to launch themselves and jostle for position. The Blue Sky Paddlers encourage anyone and everyone to participate in this fun-filled event. So dust off that canoe in the back yard and join us for a morning of excitement, camaraderie, and yes, pain. Paddlers from across the north and a good contingent from southern Ontario, make things exciting. Finishing times are under 2 hours. IT’S A CHALLENGE --- COME AND DO IT!!! |

START & REGISTRATION: Register at the North Bay
Canoe Club from 7:30 am to 8:30 am, with the race starting at 9:00am Fee: $15.00 per person. Prizes: Great Northern Canoe Race T shirts will be for sale on a cost recovery basis - $15.00 each. An awards ceremony will take place immediately following the race. |
