OMCRA - The Association
Founded in 1975, we are an ever expanding group of people who "paddle for fun and race to win". A recreational sport or a serious competition - the decision is yours. Our members are found across the province. The one thing all the members have in common is pleasure derived from time spent on the water.image - OMRCA

Anyone can be a marathon racer. Boats vary from home made cedar strip recreational canoes to Carbon Fiber racing shells, our sport also welcomes all shapes of kayaks. Age classes extend from Bantam (<14 years) to Masters (>40 years). The sport attracts an even number of men and women.

The mandate of the Association is to promote marathon canoe and kayak racing in Ontario through:
  • offering advice to race organizers and competitors
  • sanctioning races and monitoring safety policy
  • encouraging recreational and competitive marathon paddling
The Association publishes a newsletter called the Hut, which keeps members up to date on upcoming events, publishes race results and articles reviewing both local and distant events.

The Ontario Marathon Canoe Racing Association is an affiliate of Canoe Ontario. Canoe Ontario is an umbrella group looking after canoeing as a sport in Ontario. As a sports governing body we receive funding from the Provincial government to promote training and travel to national events.
